Power out of thin air – Minch CAN

“Turn it loose; you got the power
That’s the way it’s got to be
Turn it loose; get on board
It’s just for people like you and me.”

Turn it Loose by The Doobie Brothers

The east of Minchinhampton parish is one of only 18 areas in the entire District where average wind speeds and distance from homes, roads and protected habitats combine well enough to even think about building a 100m wind turbine.

In our parish, our collective carbon footprint is shocking. There’s lots we can all do to bring it down, but we need a few big-ticket items, too.

A single 100m turbine could generate 2.5MW of electricity from a comparatively tiny area of land. That’s near to an Amberley’s worth on its own. We’ve got the wind. We’ve got the space. We’ve got previous around here with windmills. We have to look into this, and see if it’s feasible.

You can help by

Right now we want to know how people feel about our having 100m wind turbines around here, so please if you live in or around the parish (your postcode starts GL5 2, GL5 5, GL6 8, or GL6 9), then please fill out our quick survey. You don’t have to give us your name, and you don’t have to answer any question you don’t want to.

And if you feel really strongly that we should have wind power in our parish – and loads of you do, it was the second-most suggested idea at our first meeting – then please get in touch to help us find out how and where wind power could happen for us.
